Las Vegas Summer Update
Required Covid Vaccinations
More and more entertainment venues are opening back up, and several will be requiring proof of vaccinations prior to entering their facilities. So far we know The Smith Center, Raiders Games at Allegiant Stadium, events produced at locations by both AEG and LiveNation, and some large conventions at the Convention Center are requiring proof of vaccination. Rumor has it that other venues are looking into the possibility of vaccination proof.
Allegiant Stadium Raiders games will require verified proof via Clear. Clear is offering a free Health Record section on their app for anyone to download and upload your records. Most travelers know Clear is the process to bypass TSA security lines by pre-registering and having your eyeball scanned for positive ID at the TSA security checkpoint. That usage has a yearly fee, but their health section is free. Other venues have not set any guidelines on how they will check your vaccination status other than physically looking at your vaccine card. Since there is no national centralized source, it looks like Clear is setting a precedent. I downloaded the Clear app and uploaded all my documentation, it only took 5 minutes. Here is the proper Clear logo to make sure you download the correct free app.Clearme.com is their website for additional information.
Chippendales Return
The world famous Chippendales will be returning to their showroom at the Rio on September 1. They are still the best the male revue in Las Vegas!
WOW and Extravaganza
The hit show WOW-The Vegas Spectacular has re-opened in their showroom at the Rio. Prior to the temporary closing of the Rio due to the pandemic, WOW had performed over 1,200 shows since its debut at Rio Las Vegas on Oct. 7, 2017; and has transported audiences into a world of water, wonder and fantasy. It has been seen by more than 2.5 million people, features a cast of more than 30 international performing artists, acrobats and dancers, who: fly, flip, fold, dance and defy the imagination in a 180-degree theatrical setting that engages the audience from beginning to end with 3D multi-media projections, water walls and holograms. WOW is a show for all ages and was one that I frequently referred Vegas visitors to go see.
WOW’s sister show Extravaganzaopened in the Jubilee Showroom at Bally’s Resort just a week prior to the pandemic hitting; and saw the return of Las Vegas Showgirls back in this iconic showroom. Bally’s closed for a short time from of the pandemic, but when it re-opened, so did the show. Extravaganza was the only production show operating all through the 2020-2021 reduced audience restrictions. Some nights, the cast of over 30 played to only 50 people in the audience. Kuddos to producers of the show for keeping their performers employed during the pandemic and giving Vegas visitors an incredible show. This show has some of the most talented and unique performers in Las Vegas!
Xavier Mortimer
You won’t find a rabbit popping out of a hat in Xavier’s magic show. His tricks are adaptations of illusions you will see nowhere else! Xavier is from Paris and you will be mesmerized by his French-mime movements. I have sent numerous magic aficionados to see his show and everyone has loved his performance. During the pandemic, Xavier turned to producing illusions on YouTube and he has gained a following of 962,000 subscribers, with one of his videos hitting 3 million views. His new show is now at the larger showroom at The Strat (Stratosphere). This is one show you surely will not want to miss!
Potted Potter
This is one show I don’t get. It’s probably because I have not read the books and only saw two of the movies. But for you ‘Potterphiles’, this show is for you! They cover all seven books in seventy minutes, by acting out the story-line drama in comedic ways. Just two guys on stage with a low budget, ‘high schoolish’ setting and props. The content and storytelling is incredible if you are an in-depth Harry Potter fan. The show is in the second floor theatre at Bally’s Resort.
Seven Magic Mountains
Seven Magic Mountains is an outdoor art installation in the middle of the desert, 10 miles south of Las Vegas. Internationally renowned Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone’s Seven Magic Mountains is a large-scale site-specific public art installation located near Jean, Nevada’s Dry Lake. The exhibit is comprised of seven towers of colorful, stacked boulders standing more than thirty feet high, and is a creative expression of human presence in the desert.
The installation site is a short distance from legendary Jean Dry Lake where Michael Heizer and fellow Swiss artist Jean Tinquely created significant sculptures in the 1960s.
Seven Magic Mountains was produced by the Nevada Museum of Art and Art Production Fund. The exhibition opened May 11, 2016, and was originally scheduled to be on view for two years. Due to the incredible success of Seven Magic Mountains since its opening, artist Ugo Rondinone has expressed a strong desire to explore ways to keep the artwork on view at its current site. The Producers continue to work on an extension plan that would enable Seven Magic Mountains to remain on view for several years into the future. At the end of 2018, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) issued a three-year permit extension for the artwork, allowing the installation to remain on view through the end of 2021. No word yet if it will be extended, therefore, make sure to visit this FREE, fun, colorful, family activity before it leaves!
Tropicana Resort Shows
The Tropicana Resort was one of the first to re-open all their shows. First up was the incredible Jason Tenner with his acclaimed Purple Reign Prince show. Jason is by far, the world’s best Prince tribute artist.
The other show currently running at the Tropicana is Legends in Concert. Legends is now the longest running show in Las Vegas, celebrating its 38th year. Beginning September 9, 2021, Direct From London will run four nights a week as a second show to Legends. The London version will spotlight British music icons like: George Michael, Elton John, and Freddie Mercury. The stupid thing is, Frank Marino as Joan Rivers, will be the guest host in both shows; even though Joan Rivers had nothing to do with British music.
