Fall 2014

There's lots of spooky stuff going on in our local theme parks this October, like:

The Happiest Place on Earth Shows a Spooky Disney Side! Disneyland Resort Celebrates Halloween Time 2014, Now through Oct. 31

Separate-ticket Mickey’s Halloween Party Expands to 14 Nights

With Trick-or-Treating, Special Fireworks in Disneyland Park

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort is a one-of-a-kind celebration of chilling, family friendly fun. Now through Friday, Oct. 31, guests will explore their spooky Disney Side with special Halloween transformations of Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain; encounter Disney villains conjured by a magic cauldron; dance to the Mad T Party band and meet Mickey Mouse and his friends in Halloween costumes.

An additional Halloween Time highlight is the separate-ticket, after-hours Mickey’s Halloween Party, where adults and children show their Disney Side by dressing in costumes, trick-or-treating at Disneyland Park and enjoying an array of special entertainment, including the exclusive “Halloween Screams” fireworks spectacular.

New to Halloween Time at Disneyland this year are the latest twists at Haunted Mansion Holiday and additional entertainment experiences at the Halloween Carnival at Big Thunder Ranch, with more mysterious fun joining the Astounding Cauldron of Magic.

Spooky Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy in Tomorrowland is one of the guest favorites during Halloween Time. The unique Halloween-themed experience begins as a typical Space Mountain adventure, but suddenly launches voyagers into a haunted section of the universe. Ghosts appear out of the starry darkness and swirling galaxies of Space Mountain, reaching out as if to grab guests as they speed through space. The exhilarating drops and curves are punctuated by piercing screams, creepy sound effects and haunting music.

Jack Skellington returns to Disneyland to take over the Haunted Mansion and brings Haunted Mansion Holiday back to New Orleans Square. Transformed with a mix of Halloween spookiness and Christmas cheer, Haunted Mansion Holiday is inspired by the classic animated film “Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas”.

Guests find new surprises within the Mansion every Halloween, including the 2014 Haunted Mansion Holiday gingerbread house. This year’s creepy creation adds a little whimsy with a hapless gingerbread zombie who is trapped inside – surrounded by frightening spikes that are very sharp, red-and-white candy canes. This is the 14th original gingerbread design since Haunted Mansion Holiday debuted in 2001. The design also features opening and closing doors and special lights.

In addition to Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy:

·       In Frontierland, guests discover an exciting, new magic show presented on the Halloween Carnival stage at Big Thunder Ranch. Nearby they also may conjure up a Disney Villain at the “Astounding Cauldron of Magic” sideshow tent at the Halloween Carnival.

·       Also at the Halloween Carnival in Big Thunder Ranch, guests encounter favorite Disney characters in Halloween costumes, pumpkin carvers showing their Disney Side with elaborate creations, Halloween décor, and activities for youngsters.

·       Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland transforms to become the Pumpkin Festival, with hundreds of pumpkins on display, no two of them the same.

·       Guests age three and up show their Disney Side and live their pirate dreams as they learn the ways of the seven seas at The Pirates League. A part of the Halloween Carnival, The Pirates League offers a variety of pirate transformation options: Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Captain Hook, Ghosted Pirate, Black Beard, Black Eyed Jack, and Empress, created especially for pirate princesses. For The Pirates League reservations call 714-781-STYLE / 714-781-7895.

·       Frontierland observes Dia de los Muertos with a traditional skeleton display that will remain through Sunday, Nov. 2.

In Disney California Adventure Park, Halloween Time offers frightful fun for guests of all ages, with favorite attractions such as The Twilight Zone™ Tower of Terror, where a “supernatural” event happened on Halloween evening 1939, 75 years ago, forever haunting the building with spine-tingling fun. Also at Disney California Adventure, the nighttime Mad T Party in Hollywood Land gets some new Halloween spice. Tweedledee and Tweedledum welcome guests as the Mad Hatter offers some devilishly delicious All Hallows Eve fun featuring new Halloween music and a chilling new look for Mad T Party band.

Mickey’s Halloween Party, a separate-ticket event* for trick-or-treating families, expands to 14special, spooky nights in Disneyland. Highlights of Mickey’s Halloween Party include:

·        “Villains Square.” Throughout the evening, the Disney villains arrive in Disneyland Town Square as the “Bad Apple Party Crashers”, riding a black horse-drawn carriage accompanied by thunder, fog, and special lighting effects. Villains such as Cruella De Vil, the Queen of Hearts, Judge Frollo from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and Lady Tremaine from “Cinderella” appear for photos and character greetings, and guests are invited to “Party Like a Villain”.

·       The opportunity to play in Disneyland for three hours before the party starts

·       Trick or Treating – candy and healthy treats – in the ultimate Disney neighborhood

·       The “Halloween Screams” fireworks spectacular, hosted by “Master of Scare-omonies” Jack Skellington (presented exclusively for guests of Mickey’s Halloween Party, weather permitting)

·       “Mickey’s Costume Party” cavalcade featuring some favorite characters, performed twice nightly

·       “Monsters U Dance Party” at Tomorrowland Terrace: Class time is over and the students of Monsters University join Halloween Time guests in a family-friendly frat party with the most popular students from Monsters U, Mike & Sulley.

·       The Cadaver Dans, a ghoulish quartet performing Halloween-themed tunes aboard a drifting graveyard-themed raft on the Rivers of America in New Orleans Square and Frontierland

·       Photo locations with popular Disney and Pixar Pals, plus Disney Villains

·       Nearly all the favorite Disneyland rides and attractions, plus Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy

·       Complimentary parking for one standard-size vehicle

Knott’s Berry Farm Presents the Return of Knott’s Scary Farm for Halloween as New Monsters ‘Infect’ the Park

Whatever you’re imagining, it’s here…including
an interactive zombie hunt and the return of Elvira

This year’s Knott’s Scary Farm conjures up unprecedented experiences and show-stopping entertainment, including the debut of Special Ops: Infected, where guests fight zombies in an interactive six-acre war, and the return of Elvira – Mistress of the Dark in an all-new stage show.

Hunt Zombies in an All-Out War

This ambitious new attraction is the first of its kind in North America and will challenge guests to exterminate the infestation of zombies who threaten mankind’s existence. Armed with specially designed laser guns, brave groups of Knott’s Scary Farm guests will embark on missions, led by their Squad Leader – a loud mouthed, take-no-prisoners commander charged with turning guests into soldiers. Groups must work together to fend off zombies and complete various missions before time runs out. If zombies drag their bodies too close, the un-infected’s guns temporarily deactivate, compromising the safety of the entire team. Soldiers with the deadliest aim will be celebrated with a tally of the number of zombies killed on a display board for other survivors to see each night in base camp.

Special Ops: Infected seamlessly integrates interactive gaming technology with an immersive mountainous landscape, delivering a breakthrough interactive haunted experience that is as terrifying as it is challenging. Missions will take guests through a variety of wilderness terrains, including the unpredictable barrel bridges across the rushing river, through the dark caverns, and through mysterious backwoods. Six acres of the beloved theme park is now home to mutinous, scream-inducing zombies, and the time has come for a harrowing Special Ops survival mission (limited spaces available; guests should visit the attraction early to avoid longer queue times).

The Return of Elvira – Ring-Mistress of the Park

Back by overwhelming demand for 2014 is Elvira – the legendary Mistress of the Dark. Elvira will headline her all new show, Elvira’s Big Top, in the 1,800 seat Charles M. Schultz Theatre twice nightly for the entire run of Knott’s Scary Farm. In her new show, Elvira becomes the "Ring Mistress of the Park" dazzling audiences with music, madness and mayhem in her Sinister Circus of the Macabre. The show features explosive dance performances by hip-hop based Academy of Villains, fresh from their appearance on Fox’s "So You Think You Can Dance?"

In honor of Elvira’s return to Knott’s Scary Farm, the Ride Warriors merchandise shop will temporarily become Elvira’s Boo-tique, where fans can purchase stylish apparel and sinfully fun products featuring and inspired by the Legendary Mistress of the Dark. Each night, a limited number of guests who spend at least $50 at Elvira’s Boo-tique during Knott’s Scary Farm will get a chance to meet Elvira between performances of Elvira’s Big Top and collect her signature on one of the purchased items. Knott’s Scary Farm is the only place Elvira can be seen this Halloween season, and Elvira’s Boo-tique offers fans a once in a lifetime meet and greet opportunity!

Face Your Fears in Eleven Haunted Attractions

Three new terrifying attractions will debut this year, with more astounding special effects and richer back-stories than ever. These new mazes complement the horrific line-up of seven returning haunted attractions. This year’s nightmares include:

Voodoo (new for 2014): Trudge cautiously through the cursed swamps of the Deep South, where creatures search the murky bogs for their next bloody sacrifice and demons curse the innocent with Voodoo hexes. Guests must choose their path from a number of foreboding choices, resulting in a different terrifying outcome with each journey into the swamp.

The Tooth Fairy (new for 2014): The joy of hiding a lost tooth under the pillow becomes a nightmare of pain and blood in this new maze that will leave teeth chattering. This twisted tooth fairy steals more than just baby teeth as he drags his victims out their bedroom window and into a world of deranged dentistry. Unbelievable special effects include a blackout room through which guests must feel their way out, a disorienting x-ray strobe light room, and a final encounter with the massive tooth fairy, himself.Say aahhh.

Trapped: Lock and Key (new for 2014): This year Trapped returns with more rooms, more intricate puzzles and a shocking finale more extreme than any experience ever presented at Knott’s Scary Farm. You become part of the terror and are forced to face your darkest fears, confront your inner terrors and descend into the madness of a maze with no way out. Trapped is not for the squeamish as the challenges are darker and more terrifying than any that have come before. (Additional fee and reservation required.)

Trick-or-Treat: Trick or treat, which will it be? Step forward and ring the witch’s doorbell. You can come away with a treat, but is it worth it? Featuring a highflying finale and new scares in the witch’s dining room, this fan favorite is back for its third year of fear.

Black Magic: The veil between the living and the dead is severed when Houdini’s ghost materializes during a séance and ushers a host of demonic illusions to play tricks on anyone who intrudes on his theatre. Back for its second year, Black Magic was one of the most popular mazes in its debut season last year. Guests will find new magic and even more monsters inside the ominous theater in 2014.

Forevermore: The twisted mind of Edgar Allen Poe comes alive as the “Forevermore Killer” works his way through one haunting tale after another. Back for its second killer season, Forevermore is one of the longest mazes ever created for Knott’s Scary Farm, and features richly detailed story lines and scenery.

The Gunslinger’s Grave: Return to the Old West and walk in the bloody footsteps of a betrayed and left for dead gunslinger on his path of retribution against a corrupt township. You may have visited Knott’s historic Ghost Town, but it’s not until you’ve followed the blood lusting gunslinger that you know the real dangers that lurk in the old west.

Dominion of the Damned: The Blood Queen’s reign has ended, but the seductive vampires continue to lure unsuspecting guests into this gothic lair of terror. Guests’ thirst for this bloody maze was unquenchable last season, and it returns with an unbelievable new finale.

Pinocchio Unstrung: Years have passed since the blue fairy denied him his final wish, but Pinocchio has returned with an army of murderous marionettes intent on killing his former masters. Revenge comes with no strings attached.

The Witch’s Keep: Many years ago, The Green Witch uncovered a wicked source of power in the depths of the Calico Mine, and now she’s hell-bent on using this mysterious energy to capture and corrupt all who dare enter! With newly enhanced show scenes, lighting, and special effects, this not-too-scary mine train adventure is perfect Halloween fun.

The Hanging® - Everything is Gruesome!,a live stage show in Calico Square irreverently looks back at the year's pop culture with killer comedy. Notorious for its special effects, pyrotechnics and high-flying stunts, The Hanging is a no-holds-barred assault on pop culture’s most infamous moments of the past year. A must see parody!

160 Acres of Scares

Knott’s Scary Farm is far more than a collection of haunted attractions. Every night monsters spill out onto the streets and turn theme park midways into murderous scare zones. From the world famous Ghost Town Streets to the Boardwalk area filled with evil clowns, there’s nowhere to hide in Knott’s Scary Farm.

Ghost Town Streets is the original and still most terrifying scare zone that started it all. Bands of half-human, half-animal monsters prowl the streets and inhabit the fog, and beware the notoriously startling sliders, who lunge from in every fog-filled corner of the land. Just beyond the streets of Ghost Town lies the mysterious outcropping known as Gypsy Camp, where fortunetellers prognosticate future terrors, and ravenous werewolves howl in the light of the moon.

Fiesta De Los Muertos fuses dance music, colorful costumes, and larger than life stilt walkers in a dance party scare zone with even more characters than last year. It’s the ultimate late night celebration of Dia de los Muertos. Around the corner from Fiesta Village is the Boardwalk, where each night of Knott’s Scary Farm, clowns crave your undying attention in the CarnEVIL scare zone.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Presents the

Biggest Halloween Event in Its History

Largest Investment and Expanded Calendar Make Fright Fest Biggest and Scariest Ever!

Six Flags Magic Mountain’s 22nd season of Fright Fest® will bethe biggest and scariest in the Park’s history. The line-up of new haunted attractions includes three immersive and terrifying mazes, a new scare zone, more roving “scare-actors” than ever before, and two additional weekends bringing the total to sixteen event days.

For six frightfully fun weekends, Six Flags Magic Mountain leaves no tombstone unturned to deliver what guests want most…the ultimate scare factor. Fright Fest will include a total of eight electrifying mazes, seven dare-to-enter scare zones, and roaming zombies around every corner. If that’s not enough, Six Flags Magic Mountain will add a sinister element to some of their monster coasters by turning off the lights, leaving riders to face their fears in total darkness – literally.

This year’s three new mazes incorporate state-of-the-art props, Hollywood-quality make-up, and story lines not meant for the faint-of-heart. Enter the world of Red’s Revenge…over the river and through the woods, to Grandmother’s house you go, but in this fairytale, guests and the wolf are hunted by Red and her demonic minions. Vault 666 is an old abandoned research facility where genetic experiments crossing humans with animals were once conducted and just recently the frightening secrets have been unearthed, exposing terror and mayhem from deep within the unsecured vault. Willoughby’s Garden of Darkness, a dense labyrinth of man-eating plants and evil apparitions,is inhabited by Innocence, the Willoughby’s youngest daughter, who is always looking for a ghostly playmate…so keep loved ones close.

Returning for its second year but with a new demented 3D twist is Toyz of Terror 3D, the defunct toy factory haunted by wicked windups, freakish furries and deranged dolls…and if that’s not enough to scare the wits out of even the bravest, guests are now forced to experience the madness in 3D terror. Also returning for year two is Total Darkness, where the lights at Magic Moments Theater have unexpectedly darkened on the anniversary of the demise of the longest running show, leaving unsuspecting guests to find their own way out of the winding black abyss with only their pounding hearts to guide them.

Back for a third year along with new terrifying additions, Willoughby’s Resurrected is a reincarnation of theWilloughby family’s beloved haunted mansion that includes hair-raising horror down long harrowing hallways and around each nightmarish-turn.

One of the largest and most popular mazes in Southern California, The Aftermath, returns in 2014 to strike terror into the brave souls entering a post-apocalyptic city inhabited by nomad warriors who rule with bone-crushing iron fists and the dead stalk the living. Also returning is Chupacabra, where guests come face to face with this elusive blood-thirsty creature as it petrifies the local Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Festival.

Seven scare zones around the park leave guests nowhere to hide and screaming to get out alive. After entering Fright Fest through the gates of Demon’s Door, face the undead in Zombie Xing, reach the land of humanoid ravens and larger-than-life scarecrows in the new scare zone Ravenstitch, and experience a City Under Siege where insane and unruly comic-like characters run amuck. In Nightmares – A Twisted Fantasy, childhood fears and favorite bedtime stories take on a perverse twist, freak out on Exile Hill when unimaginable sinister souls appear without warning, and throughout the Wasteland, barbarian humanoids dare guests to enter the carnage of The Aftermath.

Spooktacular shows include the hypnotists, who put park guests in compromising scenarios in their hilarious stage show located in Golden Bear Theater, and the very popular VooDoo Nights, where Ghoul Rock has gone pop with a musical spectacular sure to entertain. Be sure to dust off your thriller moves and join in the fun in the Full Throttle Plaza.

For the little monsters, a Trick or Treat Trail and Halloween Crafts round out the activities during the day.

Now in its fourth season, the popular Fright Feast with the Willoughby’s continues to combine food and fright for the whole family.

New this year is the exclusive Monster VIP Tour which includes Fright Fest admission, parking, Fright Feast, and front-of- line entrance to the eight mazes and six pre-selected coasters for $200 per person. All-New Terrifying Mazes:

“The Walking Dead: The End of the Line”

“The Walking Dead: The End of the Line” maze, inspired by Season 4 of AMC’s critically-acclaimed, Golden Globe®-nominated, Emmy® Award-winning TV series, will place guests at the heart of a harrowing journey to seek sanctuary at Terminus, an elusive destination that promises community for all. Mirroring the terror that befell the residents of the West Georgia Correctional Facility, now overrun by savage walkers, the experience will send guests fleeing from the fallen prison into unknown territory as they stage a desperate battle for survival against flesh-eating walkers and ruthless humans.

The ambitious maze will channel the many iconic scenes from Season 4 into a new haunted attraction, inviting guests to encounter the terror they viewed from afar. From infected walkers whose bleeding eyes struck a new chord of fear throughout the prison to the walker-filled tunnel on the crusade to Terminus, the ominous attraction will evoke a countless barrage of distressing images that will traumatize guests over and over again.

The contemporary urban city streets, towering skyscrapers, brick-faced facades and industrial exterior movie sets that make up Universal Studios’ world-famous production facilities will serve as the backdrop location for this all-new, frighteningly realistic maze.

Universal Studios Hollywood is collaborating with AMC and the show’s creative team to recreate an equally shocking experience endured by the show’s human survivors.

“Terror Tram: Invaded by The Walking Dead”

AMC’s engrossing cult favorite television series will seep into other parts of Universal’s backlot with predatory walkers prowling the secluded wooded areas of the movie studio. “Terror Tram: Invaded by the Walking Dead” will send guests on the daunting path to Terminus, interspersed with landmarks and walkers from Season 4, including the “burned moonshine cabin”, “charred walkers” and “mud walkers.”

A marquee attraction unique to Universal Studios Hollywood and “Halloween Horror Nights,” the “Terror Tram” combines a ride aboard Universal’s signature trams with a terrifying walk-through experience amid famed movie sets, including Steven Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds” and the infamous Bates Motel and Psycho House from Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film.

“Clowns 3D Music by SLASH”

Celebrated Grammy® Award-winning musician, SLASH, hailed as one of the 10 best electric guitar players of all time by Time magazine, is joining forces with Universal Studios Hollywood to compose an original score for the theme park’s hypnotizing new 3D maze, “Clowns 3D Music by SLASH” at “Halloween Horror Nights”.

While partnering with top recording artists has become a signature of “Halloween Horror Nights”, this collaboration with prolific guitarist, SLASH, marks the first time a musician has created an original maze score for the popular event. This inspired effort comes at a demanding time for SLASH, whose new album “World on Fire” debuts on September 16, 2014, on the heels of his “Let Rock Rule” World Tour, headlining with Aerosmith.

Infused with the rocker’s hell-raising electric guitar riffs, the ominous new “Clowns 3D Music by SLASH” haunted attraction is no laughing matter as it unmasks the psychological disorder known as Coulrophobia, a disturbing condition affecting those with an extreme and irrational fear of clowns.

The psychedelic 3D maze will horrify guests, taunting and tempting them with terror and treats as they parade through “Sweet Licks Frozen Clown Pops Family Amusement Center”, a dilapidated roadside attraction and one-time thriving ice cream factory run by deranged siblings and their mad clown father, Sweet Licks. As this demented trio schemes to restore the family business by luring guests with free ice cream, guests will soon find themselves on the menu as the key ingredient of a sick new high-protein ice cream concoction.

“I’m a HUGE fan of ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ and was inspired to partner with Universal Studios Hollywood because they are the founders of creating extreme horror. I’ve been composing music for as long as I can remember and jumped at the chance to be an integral part of this year’s event and create the original score for this creepy clown maze. I can’t wait to see the fans’ reactions and will be first in line to experience the maze myself.”

--SLASH, Grammy® Award-winning musician

“AVP: Alien vs Predator”

The complex and terrifying “AVP: Alien vs. Predator” maze will entangle guests in the middle of an epic and primal war between the universe’s most deadly species in an all-new, horrifying haunted attraction inspired by the Twentieth Century Fox cult sci-fi franchise.

“AVP: Alien vs Predator” will answer the proverbial question asked by mankind since the beginning of time: Are we alone in this dark, vast universe? This menacing maze will once and for all shed light on the answer when it brings to life the violent creatures cohabitating our world as it pits two rival alien species in a fight to the death with Earth as their battleground. “AVP: Alien vs Predator” will uncover a dangerous alien spaceship carrying a race of hunter aliens known as Predators and a threatening new alien life form that uses human hosts to propagate its species. After crash landing in a remote section of America and escaping to the countryside, the alien and predator become hunter and prey with guests caught in the crossfire.

AVP: Alien vs. Predator is a sci-fi horror franchise that brings together the two iconic species spawned from the blockbuster films, Alien and Predator, to create a terrifying crossover of eponymous monsters in a raging battle against mankind struggling to survive amid the chaos that ensues from these two vengeful creatures. To mark the 35th anniversary celebration of Alien, and the 10th anniversary of AVP: Alien vs. Predator, “Halloween Horror Nights” guests and fans of these celebrated films will have a chance to live the horror as they come face to face with the terror of Aliens and Predators.

“From Dusk Till Dawn”

From cult horror film to breakthrough television series on El Rey Network, “From Dusk Till Dawn” will add terrifying maze to its credits when filmmaker Robert Rodriguez’s acclaimed supernatural show debuts as a menacing new “Halloween Horror Nights” experience at Universal Studios Hollywood.

This all-new maze, inspired by the critically acclaimed television series, will thrust guests into the deviant world of “From Dusk Till Dawn”, where they will encounter sordid mythological creatures known as “Culebras”, serpent-like vampires who have tormented the earth for centuries. Residing within the elusive and sinister nightclub, “The Twister”, located just over the Mexican border and above cursed ancient ruins, the “Culebras” prove to be a band of immoral and depraved beasts with a deadly agenda. As guests navigate the maze and venture deep within the bowels of “The Twister”, they will find themselves face to face with a cast of perverse characters, including exotic dancer, Santanico Pandemonium, a mysterious and irresistible “Culebras” femme fatale and Queen Vampire.

Based on the film of the same name, "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” is a supernatural crime saga centered around bank robber, Seth Gecko, and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard "Richie" Gecko, who are wanted by the FBI after a bank heist leaves several people dead. While on the run to Mexico, Seth and Richie encounter former pastor Jacob Fuller and his family, whom they take hostage. Using the family RV to cross the border, chaos ensues when the group detours to a club populated by vampires and are forced to fight until dawn in order to get out alive. The series deepens the tone of the film, From Dusk Till Dawn, upon which it is based, adding new characters and backstories that expand the Mesoamerican mythology behind the creatures inside the club.

“An American Werewolf in London”

Universal Pictures’ Academy Award®-winning and genre-defining film, An American Werewolf in London, written and directed by John Landis, will be unleashed upon guests at Universal Studios Hollywood in an all-new “Halloween Horror Nights” maze. The experience will recreate legendary scenes from the cult favorite using gruesomely convincing props, chillingly authentic music and mind-blowing special effects that will re-awaken the terrorizing shape-shifting creature with superhuman strength, the Werewolf.

Guests will begin their horrifying journey as they enter “The Slaughtered Lamb”, the English countryside pub movie fans will instantly recognize, and experience first-hand what the tavern patrons in the film meant when they cautioned, “Stay on the road, keep clear of the Moors and beware the moon”. After stumbling upon the overgrown wasteland known as the “Moors”, maze-goers will be forced to traverse through dense fog amidst sounds of savage growls and unknown peril ahead.

Along with “The Slaughtered Lamb” pub and the Yorkshire Moors, guests will recognize other memorable scenes and characters from the film, including the London Underground and gun-wielding demon soldiers. The famous “transformation scene” that inspired the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to create an Oscar® for achievement in makeup will also be featured in the remarkable maze experience.

“Dracula Untold: Reign of Blood”

Universal Studios Hollywood breathes new life into history’s most notorious vampire, Vlad Tepes, the real life 13th century ruler and inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula in a terrifying new “Halloween Horror Nights” maze, “Dracula Untold: Reign of Blood.” Guests can feast on this immersive preview of Universal Pictures’ upcoming epic action-adventure Dracula Untold. Starring Luke Evans, the origin story of the man who became Dracula arrives in theaters on October 17.

“Dracula Untold: Reign of Blood” will introduce guests to the sadistic Transylvanian ruler Vlad Tepes, known as “Vlad the Impaler,” who infamously tortured his enemies by impaling them alive with a wooden stake and suspending their bodies. The foreboding maze will also shed an ominous light on the one-time hero, turned blood-thirsty-tyrant, who chose to embrace unholy powers in order to defeat his enemies. “Dracula Untold: Reign of Blood” will spiral guests through Dracula’s eternal damnation, where the thirst for blood is never-ending.

“Face Off: In the Flesh”

The most twisted and gruesome character creations featured on Syfy’s hit competition series “Face Off” will be live and “In the Flesh” at Universal Studios Hollywood’s “Halloween Horror Nights.” Nightmarish creatures will surround guests as the macabre visions of some of the most talented up-and-coming make-up artists’ from the show are brought to life in an all-new maze.

The “Face Off: In the Flesh” maze will recreate the morbidly disturbing creations masterminded by visionary make-up special effects artists over the course of the show’s past six seasons. Twenty-two original “Face Off” designs – from human-insect hybrids to horror villains, ancient mummies and zombies – will cascade throughout the dark corridors of the terrifying new maze bringing to life multiple incarnations of these select characters and adding to the cast of characters designed to scare the life out of every guest. “Face Off: In the Flesh” will also feature new sounds from acclaimed electro house artist “Figure,” who returns to Universal Studios Hollywood’s “Halloween Horror Nights” with a haunting mix of electronica-inspired dance music.

“Face Off” is a competition/elimination series exploring the world of special-effects make-up artists and the unlimited imagination that allows them to create amazing works of living art. The series will feature Universal Studios Hollywood for an episode airing Tuesday, September 9, in which the artists must create an original horror villain inspired by evocative titles and vivid graphics from a movie-poster. The winning make-up from this challenge will be featured in the “Face Off: In the Flesh” maze.

Terror-Filled Scare Zones:

Designed to provoke an unrelenting sense of fear, a series of unnerving scare zones will infiltrate “Halloween Horror Nights” to terrorize guests as they navigate the darkness from one terrifying maze to another.

As the gates to “Halloween Horror Nights” open, so too does the annual Purge begin at Universal Studios Hollywood with the debut of a terrifying new scare zone, “The Purge: Anarchy,” inspired by Universal Pictures’ new thriller. The scare zone will greet guests with pure unadulterated fear, bringing to life the turmoil and pandemonium that awaits those vulnerable to masked vigilantes in search of new victims. Reimagining the movie’s premise that on one night every year, any and all crime is made legal, the scare zone will be inhabited by average citizens transformed into sadistic felons during this period of government-sanctioned lawlessness. Like civilians in the movie fighting to survive, guests will be at the mercy of cunning wit, luck and speed as they attempt to outsmart and outlive the anarchy brought about by those who believe in an “eye for an eye”.

Swarms of predatory walkers will also reawaken in a terrifying new scare zone, “The Walking Dead: Welcome to Terminus,” located adjacent to the all-new maze, “The Walking Dead: The End of the Line.” With an overwhelming onslaught of zombies lumbering in all directions, the scare zone will set the stage for the unpredictable terror guests will encounter in “The Walking Dead: The End of the Line” maze.

Additional scare zones will include “Mask-a-Raid,” featuring hordes of bloodthirsty cannibals masquerading as French aristocrats; “Dark Christmas,” a Pagan-themed area where demonic creatures hunt disobedient children and drag them to hell; and “Skullz,” based on the Native American legend of Wendigo, a malevolent supernatural half-beast monster with an insatiable appetite for human flesh.
