BOB ANDERSON SINGER-IMPRESSIONIST HEADLINES AT SOUTH POINT

            No stranger to headlining in Las Vegas, Bob Anderson starred in “Frank: The Man, The Music,” which ran for a year, 2014-2015, at Palazzo Theater with a 32-piece orchestra and a professional theatrical mask making you believe Sinatra was alive. Anderson’s award-winning tribute show is currently on tour with Live Nation and may end up on Broadway.

            Meanwhile, Anderson, who made a name for himself originally doing hundreds of singing celebrity impressions will bring his more personal show to the South Point, Friday-Sunday, Aug. 30-Sept. 1, where he sings as himself and other singing star voices. Tickets are $25, $30 and $35.

            His life story of being discovered when he was 21 years old by being in the right place at the right time. In his case, he was the Sahara Hotel in 1973 in the hotel’s showroom watching Nancy Sinatra rehearse and The Everly Brothers who were to open for her got into an argument and walked out. Anderson went on that night and then went with Sinatra to “The Merv Griffin Show” and his career took off. By 1977, Anderson had appeared on more than 100 talk shows over a period of seven years, and his two-week gig at the “Top of the Dunes” turned into 10 years of packed audiences for his late-night performances.

 

OKUDA SAN MIGUEL TO DEBUT ‘MOTHER NATURA’ AT MAMA RABBIT BAR

            Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel has partnered with Mama Rabbit Bar opening Aug. 28 at Park MGM to create “Mother Natura” – a project featuring the country’s first sculptural slot machines and accompanying mural inspired by the legend of Mayahuel, the Mexican goddess of agave and fertility.

            San Miguel’s Pop Surrealistic style created a mural of goddess Mayahuel looking down upon a valley with agave, accompanied by three slot machines embedded in painted fiberglass sculptures. The machines, which each stand over 12 feet tall, resemble a bunny and two deer. His work is in partnership with global creative house Justkids.

 

PARIS CELEBRATES 20-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

            Paris Las Vegas opened Sept. 1, 1999, distinguishing its status on the Strip with its authentic replicas of French landmarks especially the 541-foot-tall Eiffel Tower, which is a half-scale duplicate of the original. The Eiffel Tower Viewing Deck with a 360-degree view of the city can be toured daily from 10 a.m. to midnight for a fee.

            Paris debuted its $1.7 million light show at the Eiffel Tower on Feb. 27, 2019. The enhanced lighting of the attraction features a nightly recurring free light show every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour from sunset to midnight with synchronized and choreographed twinkling and colored lights.

        On Sunday, Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the hotel’s Soleil Pool will usher in the anniversary underneath the iconic tower with a poolside French-inspired buffet brunch, live entertainment, and synchronized swimmers. Tickets start at $35.

            For a limited time, visitors can snap Instagram-worthy photos in the hotel lobby where there is a 40-inch-tall decorative cake replica of the resort’s exterior and Eiffel Tower. The main Strip entrance also features a permanent floral wall with neon signage surrounded by pink and white roses.

            In conjunction with the hotel’s anniversary, all 2,900 rooms and suites at Paris are newly renovated. In addition, the all-new modern and elegant Voie Spa & Salon is a 25,000-square-foot facility.

 

LYNYRD SKYNYRD RESCHEDULES LAS VEGAS DATE

            Due to illness, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour” Las Vegas date, scheduled for Friday, Aug. 16 at T-Mobile Arena, has been rescheduled for Friday, Oct. 18 with Bad Company remaining as special guest co-headliner.

            Guitarist and original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gary Rossington, has been experiencing fatigue and other symptoms related to a leaky heart valve. He underwent a procedure on July 31 to repair the valve and is expected to make a full recovery.

            The legendary rockers are best known for the RIAA Platinum-certified “Sweet Home Alabama” and self-proclaimed signature song, “Free Bird.” Last year, the group announced that after a career spanning more than 40 years with a catalog of more than 60 albums, they would embark on their “Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour” and logged more than 50 stops by the end of 2018, and the tour continues.

 

LADY ANTEBELLUM TO APPEAR AT PALMS RESORT

        Current CMA “Vocal Group of the Year” nominee Lady Antebellum launched their first-ever Las Vegas residency, “Our Kind Of Vegas,” last February at the Palms Resort’s Pearl Concert Theater and will return Aug. 23, 24, 28, 30 and 31 with 9 p.m. performances. The seven-time Grammy award-winning trio are the first country act to headline the venue. Tickets start at $34.95.

 

HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS VISIT ORLEANS ARENA

            The legendary Harlem Globetrotters will bring their incredible ball-handling artistry to the Orleans Arena on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $20.

            Known for their celebrated basketball wizardry, the Harlem Globetrotters have continually thrilled fans with their rim-rattling dunks, trick shots, comedy and unequaled fan interaction for nearly a century. After the game, Globetrotter stars sign autographs and take photos with fans. Throughout their history, the team has showcased its talents in more than 120 countries and territories worldwide.

 

SECOND YEAR FOR SOUTH POINT CAR & TRUCK SHOW

            The second South Point Car & Truck Show presented by Star Nursery to benefit the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities will be held Saturday, Aug. 24 in an hotel’s exhibit hall and open free to the public from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The event will feature an array of cars, trucks, bikes, semi-trucks and exotic vehicles housed in a climate-controlled environment and vendor booths. 

            Attendees will get to cast votes for the best vehicles in numerous award categories. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase and visitors can win prizes while donating money to a great cause.

 

MOTORTREND AUTO SHOW BRINGS 2020 MODELS TO VEGAS

            The 2020-Model MotorTrend International Auto Show returns to Las Vegas bringing more than 350 of the latest auto models from nearly 20 top manufacturers. The annual event open to the public will take place Friday-Sunday, Sept. 13-15 starting at 9 a.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Hall S4. There will be free parking in Platinum Lot 3.

            Admission for adults ages 13 and older is $10; seniors 62 and older $8; military with any DOD ID $8; and children 12 and under free. E-tickets may be purchased and downloaded from the official auto show website www.AutoShowLV.com.

 

THE STRAT PARTNERS WITH ISI GROUP TO HOST LIVE ART AUCTIONS

            The STRAT will partner with ISI Group, a forward-thinking art agency created in 2011, to host a live art auction supporting local artists and silent auction on the SkyPod’s indoor Observation Deck at 7 p.m. on Fridays - Aug. 30, Oct. 25, and Dec. 20.

            The events will be hosted by Arturo Cecena and DJ Edoc while 20 artists paint theme-centric pieces available for bidding in a silent auction. All auction proceeds will go directly to the local artists. Art themes include “Call of the Wild” in August, “Nightmare on ElmSTRAT” in September, and “Pop Culture” in December.

            Bidding on the pieces will close at 11 p.m. each night. Admission to the SkyPod is $25 plus fees; however, The STRAT offers free parking.

 

DOWNTOWN CONTAINER PARK HOSTS ‘9TH ISLAND SUMMER FAMILY LUAU’

            Downtown Container Park will celebrates island culture and the Hawaiian community with its inaugural “9th Island Summer Family Luau” park-wide day-long event on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.

                        From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. will be a special edition of Downtown Container Park’s Kids Camp series inspired by the “Aloha Spirit.” Tickets are $10 and activities, and goodie with Hawaiian lei are included.

            Throughout the day, there will be an array of specialties, luau food and entertainment including a performance by Hot Lava at 2 p.m. Beginning at 5 p.m., The Hypnotiques will usher the luau onto The Lawn with their vintage tiki-influenced style of island swing followed by the Hawaiian reggae group Haleamanao at 8 p.m., and closing out the evening with upbeat sounds and sultry R&B tinged island stylings.   

 

BEER PARK AT PARIS KICKS OFF SEASON OF VIEWING FOOTBALL

            Beer Park at Paris will become an oasis for football fans with live entertainment, tailgate fare and more than 75 high-definition TVs showing college and professional games starting Sunday, Sept. 8 starting at 9 a.m. Commemorating the first Sunday of professional football games, there will be a DJ playing party music in-between plays, and offer complimentary face-painting for fans to sport their team colors.

            Sunday football games throughout the season will offer giveaways, complimentary face-painting, a brunch menu and Bloody Mary and mimosa selections. Premium seating, with 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. start times, is available with a minimum food and beverage spend of $75 per person. Thursday and Saturday college football games will feature live performances from local DJs and premium seating will be available with a minimum food and beverage spend of $50 per person.

            There’s seating outside on the 9,000-square-foot rooftop deck and inside in a new 10,000-square-foot living room-style bar and grill.

 

THE SWEETENING OF LAS VEGAS

            Just last week the news was Caked Las Vegas owned and operated by Ricardo Gudino, who was featured on the Food Network’s “Cupcake Championships,” opened in in the Summerlin community. 

            Now there’s word Freed’s Bakery, the subject of Food Network’s hit show, “Vegas Cakes,” will open Freed’s Dessert Shop, the company’s new boutique patisserie concept offering an array of decadent pastries, cookies and more in October at 10870 W. Charleston #110 in Summerlin. This will be the company’s fourth location and third Freed’s Dessert Shop. The second Freed’s Dessert Shop is inside T-Mobile Arena. The family-owned bakery was established in Las Vegas in 1959.

            The newly-renovated La Belle Terre Bakery & Café offering a vast selection of European-inspired bites, crepes, sandwiches, paninis, exquisite pastries, homemade Artisan bread and more is also locally owned and operated. The classic European café is located at 8390 W. Sahara Ave., at the edge of The Lakes in Las Vegas. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the café is under new ownership.

 

ENTERTAINMENT HIGHLIGHTS

            Air Supply will headline The Orleans Showroom Aug. 30-Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. Formed in 1975, Air Supply members Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock burst into the music scene with their soft rock sound. Early in their career, the duo performed throughout Australia and later gained international recognition as the opening act for Rod Stewart’s North American tour. In 2008, the duo was named No. 83 on Billboard’s Top-100 musical acts of all time. Air Supply was also inducted into The Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame in 2013. Tickets start at $41.95.

            Justin Dean who bears a remarkable resemblance to the “King of Pop” has performed his tribute in multiple venues across the country as one of the top Michael Jackson tribute artists. He has performed extensively in Las Vegas as the star of MJ Live (a Michael Jackson Tribute Concert) for three and a half years. Dean will headline at The Club at the Cannery on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $19.95.  

 

MARTIN NIEVERA & POPS FERNANDEZ REUNITE AT M RESORT

            Multi-platinum recording artist Martin Nievera and prominent Filipina powerhouse vocalist Pops Fernandez will reunite at the M Resort on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. over Labor Day Weekend. Kicking off the “Two-gether Again 2019” Tour, the singer and songwriter duo will take the stage to perform their hits together for what may just be their final US tour together. The show will feature a performance by special guest Robin Nievera, Martin and Pops’ son. Tickets start at $25. 

            Nievera known as the “Concert King” of the Philippines has numerous top-selling recordings including 18 platinum, five double-platinum, three triple-platinum and one quadruple-platinum album. Fernandez, known as the “Concert Queen,” released her first album at the age of 16 and co-hosted the Philippine television series “Penthouse Live!” with Nievera. Fernandez is also known for her role as one of the 50 “Wall of the World” global experts in the field of entertainment on CBS’ talent show, “The World’s Best.”

          Australian model and DJ Brooke Evers will perform under the stars at Chateau Nightclub & Rooftop at Paris during Labor Day Weekend on Sunday, Sept. 1. Admission starts at $30.

        Evers is known for her mixed-format sound. She claimed fame after completing residencies in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Atlantic City and Miami while also performing alongside hip-hop artist Lil Jon. Evers hosts a radio show in her home country and is signed to Sujit Kundu Artist Management (S.K.A.M.) in the United States.

            TREVI Italian Restaurant in The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace will celebrate Labor Day with an extended happy hour from 2 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2 and with special pricing on “TREVI Bites,” which will be $6, signature cocktails, beer and wine.

            Ferraro’s Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar’s August Taste & Learn event will feature the wines from Piedmont’s Grimaldi winery with an artfully created menu on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $75 inclusive; reservations required.

        Renowned magician Criss Angel and headlining star of “Criss Angel MINDFREAK” at Planet Hollywood, took his son, Johnny Crisstopher, on the High Roller, the world’s tallest observation wheel topping out at 550 feet at The LINQ Promenade.
