PAPA ROACH’S ‘WHO DO YOU TRUST? TOUR’ VISITS DOWNTOWN
American rock band Papa Roach will make the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center the last stop on their 12-city “Who Do You Trust?” tour on Sunday, Sept. 1 with special guests, metal bands Asking Alexandria and Bad Wolves. The platinum-certified quartet’s latest album “Who Do You Trust?” has 12 tracks and will be released to the public on Jan. 18. Tickets are on sale now. General admission starts at $35 and VIP ticket range is from $59-$69.
EATALY OPENED AT PARK MGM
Eataly Las Vegas just opened its second location on the West Coast at Park MGM. Today there are nearly 37 Eataly stores around the globe with the first outlet opening in Torino, Italy, in January 2007. Most stores are situated in Italy. In 2010, the first U.S. store opened in New York City. Today there are two locations in New York City, one in Chicago, one in Boston, and one in Los Angeles.
The idea behind Eataly is for it to be a destination gathering all the high-quality Italian food and drink under one roof where you can eat, shop, and learn.
NEW RESTAURANTS AT THE PALMS
As part of the Palms renovation, Mabel’s BBQ created by Food Network star and James Beard Award winner Michael Symon is a new eatery on the casino floor near the main entrance. This is a new location of the Cleveland barbecue joint.
On Nov. 19, another James Beard-winning chef, Marc Vetri, opened the second iteration of his well-known Vetri Cucina of Philadelphia on the 56th floor, which was formerly the French restaurant Alizé.
Bobby Flay will open his new seafood dining spot Shark in March at the Palms.
BEAUMONT’S SOUTHERN KITCHEN IS NEW AT TEXAS STATION
Beaumont’s Southern Kitchen is now open at Texas Station in North Las Vegas serving an array of BBQ along with beer and bourbon. The Southern-focused fare is inspired by the Fertitta family’s Texas roots and led by pit master Michael Ross who hails from Alabama. The house-made from scratch menu offers an extensive selection of smoked meats as well as innovative styles of sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, salads, sides, and desserts.
A life-size, long-horned steer made from steel and metal trinkets greets guests while the ranch-like décor pays tribute to the Lone Star State with art pieces and photographs of scenic landscapes. Natural materials including timber, blackened steel and tumbled bricks have been utilized along with plaid patterns to warm colors, and heavy-woven textures. The 152-seat dining room and bar has two-tiered, wagon-wheel shaped chandeliers and a tumbled brick and dark plaster fireplace separating the two areas. The bar features a wire mesh, backlit bar, complete with a wire over structure anchored to the A-frame ceiling by rustic turn-buckles.
Good to know there are three private dining rooms available accommodating groups of 14 to 48 guests. Dining hours begin at 4 p.m. daily.
POP VEGAS WILL FEATURE ROTATING EXHIBITS
Pop Vegas will be a brand-new, trailblazing exhibition space opening at The LINQ Promenade this winter. The indoor exhibition venue is being designed to house a rotating lineup of changing exhibitions themed around pop-culture topics and trends. The opening date and names of its first exhibitions will be announced soon.
Pop Vegas will partner with local artists, performers and personalities to engage in live performances, artist demonstrations and other interactive experiences to enhance each exhibition. Pop Vegas will also be able to accommodate group buyouts for corporate receptions, weddings and other private events.
Pop-up museums have become popular the past two years. This will be the first permanent venue created specifically to house an ongoing rotation of this new kind of exhibit experiences.
MACHINE GUN KELLY WILL PERFORM AT THE PALMS
Rapper Machine Gun Kelly (nickname MGK) will appear at The Pearl at the Palms on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. The artist, who hails from Cleveland, Ohio, burst onto the music scene in 2012 with the release of his first album “Lace Up.” Tickets are $49 to $109.
MGK’s second studio album was “General Admission” in 2015, followed by “Bloom” in 2017. In 2018, MGK received exposure by releasing a musical response to rapper Eminem when he released “Rap Devil.” The chart-topping single led to MGK putting out “Binge,” a short album which hit charts around the world.
LANCE LIPINSKY AND THE LOVERS WILL VISIT M RESORT
Entertainer-songwriter Lance Lipinsky will deliver a piano performance showcasing his 1950s and 60s influences alongside “The Lovers” at the M Resort inside the M Pavilion on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $15.
The Chicago-based group takes a modern approach to timeless classics and original numbers with a throwback style combing such sounds as rockabilly, classic country and 60s pop. Best known for his role as Jerry Lee Lewis in the Tony Award winning musical “Million Dollar Quartet,” Lipinsky debuted his first original album “The Roll” with The Lovers in early 2017.
50TH ANNUAL WORLD SERIES OF POKER
The 50th Annual World Series of Poker tournament will return to the Rio in 2019 and run May 28-July 16. Honoring the milestone, a brand-new event called the “Big 50” with a $500 buy-in, $5,000,000 guaranteed prize pool, and $1 million guaranteed first-place prize will run May 30-June 2.
ORLEANS HIGHLIGHTS ROCK BANDS AND PIANIST IN JANUARY
The Orleans will feature rock bands Arch Allies, April Wine and Steelheart in The Orleans Showroom as well as pianist Ryan Ahern. Note Loverboy cancelled his Jan. 19 and 20 dates, and Winger will fill in on Saturday, Jan. 19.
Tribute band Arch Allies on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. will feature the classic hits of Bon Jovi, Boston, Def Leppard, Journey, REO Speedwagon and Styx. Tickets start at $20.
April Wine and Steelheart will appear Thursday-Friday, Jan. 17-18. April Wine has more than 40 years of hits and 16 studio albums to their name. This band began their imprint on the rock music scene in 1969 in Nova Scotia, Canada. Steelheart was formed in the early ‘90s as a hair metal band. They released their self-titled debut album and it quickly hit platinum status. Shows will begin at 9 p.m. and tickets start at $34.95.
American rock band Winger will headline on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 9 p.m. The group was formed in New York in the 1980s. Winger is known for their fiery rock anthems, such as Billboard singles “Seventeen” and “Headed for Heartbreak.” Tickets start at $19.95.
Award-winning pianist Ryan Ahern will close out the month on Saturday, Jan. 26 with a show at 7 p.m. Ahern has performed more than 100 concerts around the world. Along with his impressive piano mastery, he generates laughter and piano renditions of well-known melodies from classical masterpieces to the music of artists like Ray Charles, as well as those from films and Broadway musicals. Tickets start at $44.95.
MURRAY SAWCHUCK PRESENTS MAGIC AT THE TROPICANA
“America’s Got Talent” finalist and internet sensation, Murray SawChuck performs his magic show with sidekick close-up magician Douglas “Lefty” Leferovich at the Tropicana in The Laugh Factory showroom. If you love magic, SawChuck is a master and the intimate room makes it special for the audience. Shows are Sunday-Wednesday at 5 p.m., Thursday and Saturday at 7 p.m., and on Tuesday, Jan. 1 at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $29.95.
MOB MUSEUM HOLDS MONTHLY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Presentations at The Mob Museum in January will focus on crime and the mob. The cost is free for Museum members or with Museum admission.
“The Mob in Havana: The Rise, the Fall and the Legacy” will be presented on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. in the Organized Crime Today exhibit with mob historian Scott M. Deitche at the speaker. Deitche has written seven books and published more than 50 articles on the topic. He’ll cover the fateful 1946 Mob conference in Havana, the Mob’s downfall in Cuba, and its role in CIA efforts to assassinate Fidel Castro.
On Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m., forensic scientist with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Christine Whittle, will present “Science of Crime – Metro Crime Lab on Biology/ DNA” in the Organized Crime Today exhibit space. Each month, The Mob Museum and the LVMPD Forensic Laboratory present an in-depth look at the disciplines and sciences encompassing forensic science.
On Saturday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. in The Courtroom, Las Vegas journalist/author John L Smith will cover the Gus Greenbaum Murder. Greenbaum ran the Flamingo and Riviera for the Mob, siphoning millions of dollars for crime bosses across the country. His influence earned him the title, “Mayor of Paradise,” the name of the township where the Las Vegas Strip is located. In December 1958, Greenbaum and his wife were murdered in their Phoenix home and no one was ever prosecuted.
“Wiseguy Speaker: Phyllis Karas on Boston Mob Women” will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in The Courtroom. Attendees will learn about the trials and tribulations of women in the brutal world of South Boston mobsters. “New York Times” best-selling author, Karas will discuss her book, “The Women of Southie.” Karas has written 11 books and is a professor of journalism at Boston University.
NEON MUSEUM HOLDS SIDEWALK ASTRONOMY EVENT
“Stars and Stardust: Sidewalk Astronomy in the Neon Boneyard” is an annual family event returning to the Neon Museum downtown on Saturday, Jan. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will offer stargazing presented in partnership with the Las Vegas Astronomical Society and the College of Southern Nevada Planetarium. Admission to Stars and Stardust is free and no registration is required.
The evening will start in the dramatically illuminated Neon Boneyard before the lights are dimmed to afford a clearer view of the stars. Participants will be able to use a variety of professional telescope equipment to observe the night sky, along with a self-paced solar system scavenger hunt activity and making space-themed scratchboard art.
ORLEANS ARENA HOSTS WORLD CURLING EVENT
The World Financial Group (WFG) Continental Cup of Curling will return to the Orleans Arena Wednesday-Sunday, Jan. 16-20. The Grand March of Athletes at 7:30 p.m. and Opening Ceremonies at 8 p.m. will be free and open to the public on Jan. 16. This curling competition, which will include a new mixed doubles event, will pit six of the top women’s and men’s teams from North America, up against six of the best teams from the rest of the curling world. Competitors will include Olympic gold medal winners Team John Shuster of the U.S.A. Single draw tickets start at $20.
SOUTH POINT HOSTS MISS NEVADA PAGEANT
The Miss Nevada USA pageant will be held in the South Point Showroom on Sunday, Jan. 6. Tickets for the preliminary round at 2 p.m. are $25. The finals will take place later in the day at 7 p.m. with contestants competing in different categories highlighting talent, beauty, interests, and contribution to the community. Tickets are $55, and the winner will move on to the Miss America 2019 pageant.

Reminder, Global Winter Wonderland, the glowing giant lantern and multi-cultural festival in the Rio’s parking lot and spanning more than 15 acres, is open through Sunday, Jan. 20 and well worth a visit. Free parking is available.
Tribute bands will be performing as part of the Cascade Lounge Convert Series at the Rampart Casino. Journey Unlimited will be featured at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19 followed on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. by Bee Gees Gold. Tickets are $18 and $8 if paying with Rampart Rewards points.
The Spazmatics will present an ‘80s dance party the last two Thursday nights in January on 24 and 31 at 8 p.m. in the Veil Pavilion at the Silverton. General admission is $10.
Michael Grimm, winner of “America’s Got Talent” season five and Las Vegas “Entertainer of the Year 2012” brings blues, soul and Americana music to the Piazza Lounge inside the Tuscany on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.
The Discovery Children’s Museum will explore outer space with its upcoming “Alien Worlds and Androids” exhibit for ages 5 to 12 running Saturday, Feb. 9 through Sunday, May 5. The “Top Secret-License to Spy” exhibit will follow May 25-Sept. 8. This display will feature spy technology to gather clues while kids crack the case and catch the criminal exhibit.
Minus5 Ice Experience recently added another addition to its ever-growing celebrity cocktail program. The Peek A Boo drink honors the stimulating sexy ladies of “X Rocks,” and features strawberry gin liqueur, cranberry juice, lemon, simple syrup with a pink sugar and sprinkle rim.
Aid for AIDS of Nevada’s (AFAN) Sixth Evening of Cabaret will return with television and Broadway star John Davidson on Friday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. at the home of Penn and Emily Jillette. Proceeds from the evening will benefit AFAN. Tickets are $100 and limited.
The LV Craft Show with more than 50 vendors showcasing a wide variety of items will be held in the Veil Pavilion at the Silverton from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
