HONG KONG’s MOTT 32 IS COMING TO THE PALAZZO

            Mott 32, an award-winning upscale Hong Kong restaurant, will open its first U.S. outpost at The Palazzo at The Venetian this winter. The 11,715-square-foot Mott 32 will seat up to 242 guests, have five private dining rooms, and be open for dinner nightly.

            The name Mott 32 comes from the address of New York’s first Chinese convenience store, which opened in 1891 and was the nucleus for what is now a vibrant Chinatown.

            The restaurant’s acclaimed menu combines authentic handed down Chinese recipes with progressive cooking techniques. The farm-to-table cooking will be led by Group Executive Chef Man-Sing Lee, a two-Michelin star chef, and Vegas-based Head Chef Alan Ji.

            The playful design will be done by interior designer Joyce Wang, whose Mott 32 designs in Hong Kong and Vancouver won the “World Interior of the Year” award out of all categories for the Hong Kong venue. Some areas within the new place will be delicately lit by neon signage and pay tribute to Las Vegas’ history with such touches as a dining table made from a vintage Roulette wheel, or a chandelier adorned with a feather boa.

 

LA LA NOODLE IS COMING TO PARK MGM THIS FALL

            La La Noodle is a new dining concept debuting at Park MGM this November. It will be a casual destination and relaxed atmosphere serving authentic Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai cuisine. The restaurant will have a prime location near the Park Theater with a covered outdoor patio and minimalist design.

            Named after the Mandarin term for pulled – (pronounced lah) – La La Noodle will feature hand-pulled noodle dishes as well as entrées including Vietnamese Braised Catfish served in a clay pot.

 

TREEHOUSE PROJECT PLANNED FOR DOWNTOWN ARTS DISTRICT

            Keeping an eye on the emerging downtown area, another new project is in the works. The 22,000-square-foot “Treehouse” entertainment complex will be located at 1022 South Main Street, which is space formerly occupied by vintage clothing reseller The Attic, which closed in 2014. Expected opening is next March and project cost $7 million.

            The new construction is reported to include a 300-seat restaurant, indoor and outdoor lounges and stages, sports bar, nightclub, rooftop bar and lounge, pool with a day club, private dining room and speakeasy, convention facilities, and a poker machine room. 

 

M RESORT WILL OPEN FIRST TOPGOLF SWING SUITE IN VEGAS

            Teaming up with Topgolf® Swing Suite, M Resort will open the first indoor interactive, two-bay Topgolf Swing Suite virtual gaming experience on Sept. 1. Guests will be able to play hitting at a screen in a spacious, temperature-controlled room with comfortable lounge seating.

            Players will be offered various golf and multi-sport games including TopContender, modeled after Topgolf’s signature game, which tracks shot accuracy while awarding players points for hitting targets and playing some of the world’s best golf courses.

            Located across from Baby Cakes Artisan Bakery, Topgolf Swing Suite’s food and drink menu will offer burgers, pizza, craft beer, specialty cocktails and gourmet milkshakes.

            All equipment will be provided. Hourly pricing starts at $30. Opening hours will be Monday–Friday at 10 a.m. and 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Closing will be 10 p.m. Sunday–Thursday and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

 

DOWNTOWN BREW FESTIVAL RETURNS FOR SEVENTH YEAR

            The Downtown Brew Festival (DBF), which is Motley Brews’ beer bash, will return to the Clark County Amphitheater for its seventh year from 5-9 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 20. DBF with a backyard party vibe will highlight more than 250 beers from 70 breweries, “Festaurant Row” with some of the finest chefs in the city, and live music.

            A sell-out crowd of more than 4,200 guests is anticipated. General admission tickets start at $35; early 4 p.m. admission tickets $45; and VIP tickets $80.

 

THE W HOTEL IS GONE AT SLS

            After only a year-and-a-half, the W Hotel occupying one tower at SLS is gone. It was part of Marriott International’s W Hotels Worldwide brand. The resort’s new owners, the Meruelo Group, are investing $100 million in renovations at the three-tower property, which was formerly the Sahara.

            Becoming a fully independent operator, Meruelo is taking over the resort’s reservations system from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. In addition, the SLS will discontinue membership as a Starwood Tribute Portfolio Hotel & Resort.

 

STRATOSPHERE UNVEILS NEW ELEVATE ROOM SERIES

        The Stratosphere is doing a complete makeover of its guest rooms with remodeled contemporary décor including new furniture and amenities. The first phase is three floors totaling 252 rooms introducing the new Elevate series, available by the end of the month.

            The room palette ranges from pale sky-blue upholstery to storm cloud grey carpet. Architectural firm, Friedmutter Group, is incorporating technology and efficiency with features like integral charging stations equipped with USB ports on side tables. Cordless phones allow access to Stratosphere’s 24/7 concierge services. Every room will have a 55” TV with accessible HDMI ports along with a custom entertainment console and complimentary Wi-Fi.

            Bathrooms are also being redesigned for efficiency, comfort and practicality including having new walk-in showers and upgraded fixtures. Additional amenities include an in-room refrigerator, safe and designated work area, and courtesy coffee maker.

 

MANILOW EXTENDS HIS WESTGATE SHOW INTO 2019

            Barry Manilow confirms his hit show “Manilow: Las Vegas – The Hits Come Home!” is extended at the Westgate through 2019. The award-winning singer-songwriter has sold more than 85 million albums worldwide. He is one of the world’s all-time bestselling recording artists. His 85-minute show, which debuted last May, celebrates Manilow’s greatest hits, which includes an amazing 50 Top 40 singles including 12 No. 1 tunes and 27 Top 10 hits. Manilow will return Sept. 27-29. Ticket range is from $39.75 to $329.75.

 

BRING ME THE HORIZON WILL ROCK THE JOINT

            British rock band Bring Me The Horizon’s massive “First Love” North American tour will make a stop at The Joint at Hard Rock on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $35.

            Bring Me The Horizon popularity has been skyrocketing the past few years, selling more than 4 million albums globally and playing sold-out shows in more than 40 countries. The group is poised now to release their sixth studio album “amo” via Columbia, which will have some surprises but mostly stick with the band’s successful formula.

 

PETER FRAMPTON PERFORMS AT PEARL AT THE PALMS

            Grammy Award-winner Peter Frampton will headline the intimate Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. Ticket range is $49 to $109.

            Frampton recently reissued his critically lauded album “Fingerprints” via his own imprint Phenix Phonograph. The album, which is available for the first time on vinyl, was originally released in 2006 and won the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album. The cover of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” off the album was also nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

            Frampton has been at the music game a long time having at age 16 been the lead singer and guitarist for British band The Herd. At 18, he co-founded one of the first supergroups, Humble Pie. In 2014, he was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame. Frampton recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of his fifth solo album, “Frampton Comes Alive!,” which remains one of the top-selling live records of all time.

 

HARD ROCK’S REHAB BEACH CLUB CELEBRATES FINAL SEASON

            After 15 years and an originator of the daylife party scene, Hard Rock has announced this year will be Rehab Beach Club’s final season. In celebration, Rehab will host a big party over Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 1-3. Tickets start at $60 for females and $80 for males on Saturday and Sunday; $20 and $30 respectfully on Monday.

            The weekend will kick off with Grammy Award nominated PartyNextDoor making his debut there on Saturday. He is well known for his collaborations with Rihanna, Drake, Halsey and others. 

            On Sunday, Grammy Award winning rapper and producer, Puff Daddy will return to with DJ and music producer, Laidback Luke. Puff Daddy will continue on Labor Day with Ookay at the DJ booth. In the past, Ookay has teamed up with Diplo, Marshmello and Avicii.

 

SID THE SCIENCE KID EXHIBIT VISITS DISCOVERY CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

            Sid the Science Kid: The Super-Duper Exhibit! traveling exhibit will visit the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum Sept. 22-Jan. 21, 2019. The exhibit brings the award-winning PBS KIDS TV series “Sid the Science Kid” to life.

            Children will be able to become “science kids” as they discover and investigate everyday science questions around Sid’s home, at school in the Super Fab Lab and on the playground. Through hands-on activities, kids will use scientific tools and thinking to learn about simple machines, the laws of motion, magnetism, air power and the five senses.

 

RAMPART CASINO STARTS PARLAY AND ROSÉ FOOTBALL PROMOTION

            The Race & Sports Book at Rampart Casino will kick off the season-long Parlay and Rosé promotion in the Cascade Lounge on Thursday, Sept. 6. At the free 6 p.m. seminar, experts Steve Mikkelson and Duane Colucci will lead attendees through the nuances of parlay betting such as how to read point spreads, utilize over/under, read moneylines, and more.

            In addition, there will be complimentary rosé or beer, sandwich selections from the newly launched Clubhouse Deli and sweet treats. For each parlay bet placed ($10 minimum) during the football season, bettors will receive a coupon for a free glass of rosé redeemable at the Race & Sports Bar.

 

NOW THE ART OF THE COCKTAIL

            Nathan Myhrvold, who won the 2018 James Beard Cookbook Award for Modernist Bread portraying food in new and unexpected ways, is debuting seven classic cocktail images at his Modernist Cuisine Gallery at the Forum Shops at Caesars. Myhrvold, known for his vivid and disruptive food photography, now has 90 food-focused images on display and for sale at both his Las Vegas and New Orleans galleries.

            The new cocktail collection pays homage to some of the most iconic party drinks. Myhrvold used innovative photography techniques and custom-built equipment, including brand new robots, to capture intoxicating images with a twist.

 

‘AMERICA’S TOP MIXOLOGIS’ JOINS SOUTHERN GLAZER’S WINE & SPIRITS

            Brian Van Flandern is the new Executive Director of Mixology, Spirit Education and Special Events for Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits of Nevada. The award-winning author and mixologist has more than 25 years of expertise in mixology and spirits. Prior to joining Southern Glazer’s, Van Flandern was president and founder of his own mixology consulting firm, Creative Cocktail Consultants.

            Part of Van Flandern’s responsibilities will be overseeing Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits Academy, where industry professionals are invited to learn from master mixologists, spirits experts, master sommeliers and cicerones. The focus will be to elevate the local beverage program while inspiring and educating bartenders and mixologists around the valley.

            Van Flandern has been featured on shows such as Spike TV’s “Bar Rescue,” The Food Network’s “The Barefoot Contessa,” and The Cooking Channel’s “Foodography.” He is the author of more than four award-winning books. His fifth book, “Whiskey Cocktails,” is set for release this fall. In addition, his libation recipes can be found in fine restaurants, resorts and cruise lines in more than 40 countries worldwide.

 

LABOR DAY TIDBITS

            Aug. 31-Sept. 3, Cabo Wabo Cantina at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood will offer a holiday-inspired cocktail for $13 and have a live DJ on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 a.m.

            Beer Park at Paris with a new spin will offer a “Gator Day” feast Saturday-Monday, Sept. 1-3. Beer Park will be smoking alligators to create gator tacos made with bacon and Andouille sausage-stuffed smoked alligator. Three tacos and a complimentary brewery-fresh beer will cost $14.95.

            Wet’n’Wild will celebrate on Saturday, Sept. 1 with a Labor Day Luau. The Polynesian themed event will feature an all-you-can-eat luau buffet from noon –2 p.m. for $13.99, two free Polynesian performances at 2:30 and 3:45 p.m., and a meet-and-greet with dancers and Hawaiian princess at 4 p.m. A limited-time End of Summer Splash Sale includes a one-day water park ticket for a discounted rate of $19.99.

            Therapy restaurant downtown will celebrate Labor Day with a buy-one-get-one free drink deal on all drinks at the restaurant.

            On Saturday, Sept. 1, the Stratosphere will feature Arizona rockers, Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers, known for their hit song “Banditos,” at 9 p.m. at the Elation Pool. Tickets are $25, and parking is free.

            Australian blonde model and DJ, Brooke Evers will appear at Chateau Nightclub & Rooftop at Paris beginning at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2. In addition, there will be performances by fellow disc jockeys Romina, Andrew Skyy and Bayati. Celebrating their sixth anniversary, Electric Family will celebrate with exclusive merchandise and giveaways. General admission to the party starts at $30.

 

THE NASCAR SOUTH POINT 400 WEEKEND CHILLS OUT

            The upcoming South Point 400 weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) Sept. 14-16 has plans for keeping NASCAR fans cool. The speedway is expanding cooling plans with 100 misting stations, cooling zones, shade tents, and extra-large port-a-cool fans circulating air underneath the grandstands. The Dream Racing Gaming Garage in the infield will be set up as a cool zone.

            Encouraging staying hydrated, there will be extra water sales locations, and the LVMS is adding water “bubblers” for fans to get free cups of cool water at several stations around the property. Fans will be able to purchase towels that will be dipped in ice water at the LVMS merchandise areas, and several vendors in the Fan Engagement Area also will be selling cooling supplies.

            For safety, the speedway is expanding its number of roving paramedic teams, first aid stations and medical personnel in the Neon Garage and grandstands.

 

MISC. NEWS CLIPS

            Recently, Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte joined by fellow gold medalist Ed Moses and other friends celebrated his birthday at Joe Vicari’s Andiamo Steakhouse at the D downtown. Lochte’s confetti-flavored cake was made in the shape of a large 2020, with a Tokyo Olympics logo engrained in the icing.

            Jonathan Davis of Korn: Black Labyrinth Tour 2018 will appear at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay on Wednesday, Oct. 10. This tour is in support of Davis’ debut solo album “Black Labyrinth” released last May. Davis is the front man for alt-metal/rock game-changers Korn with accolades including two Grammy® Award wins.

            TREVI Italian Restaurant at the Forum Shops at Caesars featuring celebrity judges will hold its fourth annual charity pizza cook-off competition on Thursday, Aug. 30 with local media personalities competing to raise money for their charity of choice by creating their own recipe.
