CHEF JAMES TREES OPENS ESTHER’S KITCHEN
Chef-owner James Trees has opened his hometown neighborhood restaurant Esther’s Kitchen at 1130 South Casino Center Blvd. in the Las Vegas Arts District. The eatery is named for the great aunt who was Chef Trees’ first mentor. Indoor seating capacity is 50-plus with additional front and rear outdoor seating opening by spring.
Trees’ impressive culinary career had him joining the Mirage kitchen team before he even graduated from Las Vegas High School. His formal training was at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. At age 21, he returned to the Vegas Strip as the youngest Sous Chef ever hired at Michael Mina’s Aqua in Bellagio and went on to open five new restaurants with that team. He spent a year working behind the scenes on Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares TV production and followed it with the last 10 years being spent playing a vital role in the revived Los Angeles food scene.
Esther’s Kitchen full menu grounded in the ingredient-driven cuisine of Italy offers fresh pastas, pizzas to order, antipasti and mains, with a strong section of plant-based dishes. Pastas, breads and nearly everything possible are being made in-house with produce and proteins coming from the best local sources available including the restaurant’s own herb garden.
Restaurant hours are dinner Tuesday-Sunday 5-11 p.m. with a happy hour at the bar 4-6 p.m. Weekday lunch and weekend brunch hours will be announced soon.
