September 2022
We always feel the changes that happen between August and September—the weather changes dramatically, and because of that, business and conventions come back to town. Las Vegas gets busy in September. School is back in session. Headliners are storming back to the city. Football is back! We also have Labor Day, Mexican Independence, and the 21st anniversary of September 11th, (I’ll be flying my flag and taking time to remember the heroes, the horror, the evil, and the strength that was brought about because of all of those events.) It’s also time to change the watering schedule for the yard.
September (from Latin septem, "seven") was originally the seventh of ten months in the oldest known Roman calendar. After the calendar reform that added January and February to the beginning of the year, September became the ninth month but retained its name. It had 29 days until the Julian reform, which added a day.
The autumnal equinox—also called the September or fall equinox—is the astronomical start of the fall season in the Northern Hemisphere and the spring season in the Southern Hemisphere. It will be on September 22nd. The word “equinox” comes from Latin aequus, meaning “equal,” and nox, “night.” On the equinox, day and night are roughly equal in terms of length. During the equinox, the Sun crosses what we call the “celestial equator”—an imaginary extension into space of Earth’s equator line. The equinox occurs precisely when the Sun’s center passes through this line. When the Sun crosses the equator from north to south, this marks the autumnal equinox; when it crosses from south to north, this marks the vernal equinox.
There are some very fascinating national designations for September…I’ll highlight a few that I find the most interesting…
September 1st is National No Rhyme (Nor Reason) Day. The First Friday in September is National Lazy Mom’s Day. International Bacon Day is the Saturday before Labor Day, and September 15th is National Linguine Day, National Double Cheeseburger Day, and Google.com Day. Interestingly, September 18th is National Cheeseburger Day (just a few days after Double Cheeseburger day.) September 20th is National Punch Day and Wife Appreciation Day…is that just bad taste? September 22nd is Hobbit Day, and the 23rd is Celebrate Bi-sexuality Day. In spite of bad press the 26th is National Shamu the Whale Day and the 27th is National Corned Beef Hash Day. And one of my favorites…September 30th is Blasphemy Day.

Élia Beach Club has prepared a special performance from Flosstradamus, Good Times Ahead, and Faed set to elevate the crowd on Saturday, September 3.

Following an extensive audition process, the producers of Bat Out of Hell – The Musical, the award-winning hit production set to Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf's greatest hits and one of history's best-selling albums, have hand selected Travis Cormier as the coveted starring role of Strat, the immortal leader of The Lost. Cormier will take the stage at Paris Las Vegas on Sept. 27, after a long and tedious selection process filled with setbacks, hard work and ultimately triumph. After a wide search in both Los Angeles and Las Vegas over the course of several months, the producing team headed to New York for one last round of auditions to find the perfect fit for Steinman and Meatloaf's original vision. At the very last minute, the show's casting director came across Cormier, even though he had actually just missed the New York auditions because of a misplaced passport, and were intrigued by his rock 'n' roll yet dreamy vibe. To see if the voice matched the face, the team agreed to meet him on a conference call and within the first five notes, the producing partners knew they had just found the next big star and hired him on the spot.
