Viva Elvis – One of my business associates was in town with his family and they took me with them to see Viva Elvis at Aria. Based on the reviews I had from friends who saw it – I wasn’t expecting very much. I am pleasantly surprised to say that it was really good! Yes, there are several times when we get the typical ‘Cirque’ crap of people suspended by wires and hanging or floating across the top of the stage which does not make sense, but the overall concept worked and seemed a fitting tribute to Elvis. My friend who I went with is a HUGE Elvis fan, so much so he now owns two of Elvis’ authentic rings, and he REALLY loved the show and will return to see it again. I on the other hand, do not get into the whole Elvis or Beetles ‘groupie fan’ thing so I looked at the show as an entertaining overview of Elvis’ career. I guess it says more coming from a very devoted fan that he loved the show! If some of the rumors around town are true that MGM/Mirage Corporation has reviewed the idea of closing this show along with two of the hotels within the City Center project, then you better go check out this show sooner rather than later. Currently attendance has been stated to be around 60% and that is not enough revenue for a cast the size of this one or the overhead attributed to a Cirque production. Thanks Kevin for a great show and I am so glad that it exceeded your expectations.
