TUBES, DREAMS & TOTAL THEATER AT CSN
By: Hal de Becker
One world premiere, one revival, four guest artists and a host of student dancers will be featured in College of Southern Nevada’s upcoming dance concert.
The program is choreographed by Kelly Roth, CSN’s long time Dance Program Head, and will be presented December 2nd and 3rd at Nicholas Horn Theatre on the Cheyenne campus.
Mr. Roth has performed with dance companies in Paris, Hong Kong and Quebec and in NYC with the famed Murray Louis troupe. His choreographies have been presented in France, Italy, Mexico, Spain and the Czech Republic.
Joining him in the concert will be Yoomi Lee a former principal ballerina with numerous dance companies, including Nevada Ballet Theatre. With her husband, Kyu Dong Kwak, she founded the Kwak Ballet Academy and Las Vegas Ballet Company. Their frequent appearances with LVBC have been highly acclaimed.
Other guest artists include Christina Stockdale, another former NBT dancer, and Carrie Miles and Jennifer Roberts.
The program includes Lehi’s Dream’ originally choreographed in 2006. Since then requests for its revival have been numerous. In it Roth explores dreams, visions, faith and psychiatry and their roles in modern society. The work is set to an original score by Norwegian composer Thor Ellyk.
In ‘Lehi’s Dream” Roth’s affinity for ‘total theater’ is given full range with the inclusion of many elements: music, dancing, acting, videos, projections and more.

‘Interlopian Tubes’ is the work being premiered, and is described as “An abstract series of solos…’. The music is by a trio of contemporary classical composers, David Longstreth, Louis Andriessen and Evan Ziporyn.
Tickets, ranging from just $8.00 to $10.00, are a bargain for an elaborate dance production like this one. More info and reservations are available at (702) 651-5483 and 651-4201.
