January 2023

Come on…2023! Baby needs a new pair of shoes…

2022 seemed to be a year of rebuilding as we move away from a pandemic burdened world.  We declared that Covid was over…except for all of the people who continue to get sick.  We were beat up for two years, and we moved through 2022 like trauma victims.  It was a year where we were metaphorically looking over our collective shoulders.  For me, it was a year of reflections and lessons.  It was an introspective year, steeped in a search for inner peace.  It was a frustrating year because whenever I made progress, the goal post moved.  It was a year of moving forward, and yet feeling like I wasn’t moving at all.

We always want the New Year to be a fresh start…the beginning of some new adventure that will make us better people.  We look at ourselves and try to figure out what we should do (or not do) to make our lives better…which is usually fairly easy.  For the most part, we already know what our shortcomings are, and we know what we need to do to fix them, (i.e. weight and exercise,) and we use the New Year to recommit to those things.  I realized, however, that all resolutions are really about the same thing…working to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. Sadly, the average time before a resolution is broken…? Seventeen days.

I want this year to be about of quality rather than quantity.  I want to surround myself with fans, and in turn, become a fan of something or someone else.  I want to see my play produced.  I want to discover a new dream, a new inspiration.  I want to pick up and finish something that I had put aside.  The New Year is a new beginning, and it is a chance to look forward to the best of ourselves.
